A Beautiful Notion

Fields of purple scent mingle with the sun

of  Golden swaying wheat

spread out so far the eye can’t see

Two souls running free

your  hat a rakish prop

To win a love with peacock flair

Inside your iris brown

I’m falling, falling down

Arms and legs a tangle wrapped

The two are one entwined

Love abounds in that first rush

Time and stillness hush

No pretense here where all is clear

It’s vivid and it’s true

The memory to find my way

To a sunny fifth of May

Unwinding hands and things that tick

It’s cause and effect

We rail and harass the fates

And tear away what separates

A smiling kiss renews a heart

With thoughts now ours, not mine

Deeds echo feelings divine,  unbound

Drumming hearts which make no sound

Sand and water sweep and sway

Bodies ebb and flow

A water swell of passion blue

Wash away what isn’t true

A thought is  thread of light life

Instant hours that pass like years

A river running to an ocean

Tears replace a beautiful notion
